Paralegal

I support people with a mission. I prep modern-day warriors for battle and make them look good doing it. My journey to becoming a paralegal, like many, was somewhat meandering.

On Orientation Day, 2004, at Texas State University in San Marcos, I found myself in the “Undecided Majors” decision room. With dozens of other accepted, moved-in and ready to learn freshmen listening anxiously to the sales presentation of their future, the presenters shared about a Political Science degree. “This major only requires 3 hours of any level math.” With that, I declared my major.

I worked at a bank all through undergrad. At the end of undergrad, I prepped to take the Law School Admissions Test, the “LSAT.” After two mediocre LSAT scores, I applied to eight law schools in 2008. All eight rejected me.

After graduation, I traveled. When I returned from traveling, I went back to work at the bank, but I still wanted to get into the legal field. In 2010, I started pursuing a Masters of Arts in Legal Studies at Texas State University – San Marcos. I started working as Quality Assurance for a legislative tracking startup, Legislative Information Services of America, or “LISA.” I loved this job so much that in 2011, I suspended my studies in order to move to Phoenix, Arizona to keep it. I was promoted, traveled to various state houses, presented at American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and National Council of State Legislators (NCSL) conferences. The parent company pulled funding due to lack of sales in 2014 and I returned to Texas to finish my Masters degree.

In 2015, I worked for the Office of the Attorney General as a Legal Assistant in the Law Enforcement Defense Division. I had wonderful co-workers and enjoyed learning all about what it means to support attorneys in civil defense litigation.

A typically wonderful 2017 day in my life as a Paralegal at OAG.

In 2018, I joined the Travis County Attorney’s Office as a Paralegal in the Litigation Division, where I am currently employed.

As a Civil Defense Litigation Paralegal, I’ve spent the last decade readying dozens of lawyers to slug out a wide range of legal issues in court. I’ve provided litigation defense support in hundreds of state and federal civil lawsuits, scores of cases through discovery, dozens of appeals and 3 trials in federal court, each resulting in a win.
